Eugene "Gene" Renwick

A/2C - Missile Mechanic - 1964

"My stay at SJAFB was short -- May to November of 1964. A hurricane (Isbell, I think) went through there and triggered my asthma. I had asthma since birth (but thought maybe I was over it when I joined the AF), but the hospital commander got wind of it and called me in for a conference. He said if I fought the medical discharge and won, I still wouldn't be eligible for reenlistment nor overseas assignments. So, that's how I ended up leaving so soon -- not my idea. I planned on being a lifer at that time.

"I read a 2 week old Miami Herald that got me a job at RCA (met my wife, Carol) and started a long career in the computer industry. I remembered some of the best days were at Lowry AFB and Denver. I had always wanted to live there and got my chance in 1983, spending 19 years there before heading to Las Vegas and the start of a real estate career in my waning working days.
