This was one of a sequence of photographs taken at a group presentation of the Air Medal to four 482nd pilots; Capt. Leslie C. Conwell, Capt. Peter D. O'Neill, 1st Lt. Dallas R. Hanna, and 1st Lt. Daniel J. Sherlock. A group photo, showing all but Capt. Conwell, appeared in the November 1, 1963, issue of the Seymour Scope. (Likely each officer had an individual photo as above.) The Air Medals were earned during the Cuban Missile Crisis for participating in "...20 or more active air defense missions under most hazardous conditions in support of the defense of the United States against a potential armed enemy." Circa late October, 1963. GCW
