Leo Herman Smay, age 64, of St Augustine, died July 8, 2003 at Veterans Administration Hospital, Gainesville. He was a native of Buckhorn Township, Ill. and had resided here for the past two years. He was a Steelworker for Laclede Steel Mill, Alton, Ill.
Services: Will be held in Versailles, Ill.
Survivors: Two daughters, Dawn Morse, St Augustine, and Leigh Anna Yoder, Bethalto, Ill.; one son, Scott E. Smay, Columbia, Ill.; two 2 sisters, Ellen Bryant, Jacksonville, Ill., and Gloria Moddy, Hamilton, Ill.; four brothers, Roy Edward Smay, Bunker Hill, Ill., Leslie Smay, Jr., Jerseryville, Ill., Curtis Glenn Smay, Cottage Hills, Ill., and Gary Smay, Virginia, Ill.; seven grandchildren.

Leo Smay, 64, former Alton area resident, died at 7 p.m. July 8, 2003, at Malcomb Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla. He was born July 9, 1938, in Buckhorn Township, Ill., to the late Leslie and Ruth (Hunt) Smay.
He married Sarah Jane Chestnut Nov. 5, 1960, in Bunker Hill. They were married for 30 years.
He worked for Laclede Steel Company, then served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Laclede Steel Company after his discharge from the Air Force, retiring in 1996. He had resided with his daughter in St. Augustine for the past 19 months.
Survivors include a son, Scott Smay of Columbia, Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Barry Morse of St. Augustine, Fla., Leigh Anna and Jim Yoder of Bethalto; seven grandchildren, Greg and Amanda Smay and Matthew, Leah, Abigail, Aaron and Seth Morse; four brothers, Leslie Jr. of Jerseyville, Curtis of Cottage Hills, Roy of Bunker Hill and Gary of Virginia, Ill.; two sisters, Ellen of Jacksonville, Ill., and Gloria of Hamilton, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Howard and Richard; and two sisters, Ruth and Betty.
Graveside services for family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at West Side Cemetery in Versailles, Ill.
Craig Funeral Home and Crematory of St. Augustine, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
