Services for U.S. Air Force Capt. Richard T. Sims, 74, Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kroeger Funeral Home.
He died at 10 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, in his residence.
Born Aug. 20, 1933, in Muncie, he was the son of Thomas W. Sims and Mattea Johnson Sims. He was married to Fanney P. Sims, who preceded in death Aug. 13, 1969. He was married Dec. 13, 1970, in Long Island, N.Y., to Pauline A. Dawson, who survives.
Richard retired in 1998 from IBP. He was then employed for several years as a driver for Cass Transit.
Capt. Sims served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1968. He was a flight aviation instructor and an aviation enthusiast. A graduate of Muncie Central High School, he attended Ball State University and the University of Alaska. Richard was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790 in Logansport.
Richard enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an Indianapolis Colts fan. He also enjoyed fishing.
Also surviving are his sons, Joseph Sims (Traci), Terre Haute, Raymond Sims (Marshelle), Knightstown, and Stephen Sims, Simi Valley, Calif.; daughters, Angela Sims, Long Island, N.Y., Paula Steele (Samuel), Logansport; brother, Gerald Sims (Sharon), Logansport; sister-in-law, Betty Sims McCracken, Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
His sisters, Evelyn Sims, Thelma Erhart and Helen Cole, and brother, James Sims, all preceded in death.
Rev. Scott Ellison will officiate. Interment, with full military honors, will be in Marion National Cemetery, Marion.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
