Robert L. Sherwood, 82


FELTON - Robert L. Sherwood of Felton died of a massive stroke Friday, April 6, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 82. Mr. Sherwood was born in Houston, the son of the late Wilbert and Blanche Bernard Sherwood.

A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sgt., receiving many commendations, retiring in 1967 after 23 years of service. After retiring from the service, he was superintendent of grounds and buildings for Lake Forest School for 16 Years. He also worked at NASA in Greenbelt, Md. for two years.

Mr. Sherwood memberships included: Manship Chapel; Victory 15 0.E.S. in Dover; Union Lodge 7 A.F.&A.M. in Dover; Scottish Rite Valley of Wilmington; Nur Temple AA0NMS in Wilmington; First State Shrine Club; Lower Delaware Shrine Club; Delaware Shrine Club; I.O.O.F. Lodge 30 in Felton; Sarah Rebekah Lodge 16 in Felton; and the I.O.O.F. Commandery. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6009 in Felton and a charter member of the Felton Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Salena Kates Sherwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl J.S. and R. Dale Gladden of Felton; a son, Robert Lawrence Sherwood of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Ralph Sherwood of Smyrna; five grandchildren, Caprecia G. Zdradzinski and her husband, Michael, Catrena G. Welch and her husband, Glenn; Casondra Gladden and her friend Michael Cain, Julie-Marie T. Gladden, and Julieanne S. Cross and her husband Michael; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary Zdradzinski, Zadriene Zdradzinski, Tyler Welch, and Whitney-Jane D. Welch.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street in Felton, where an Odd Fellows Service will be held at 7 p.m., and a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Service will be noon Tuesday at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in The Veterans Cemetery, Georgetown. Instead of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 34th and Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19104.
