JOSEPH R. E. SEARS, Jr.


Joseph Raymond Edward Sears Jr., 59, of 1720 Dogwood St., died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Winooski, Vt., he was the son of Lillian Lavelle Sears of Fitchburg, Mass., and the late Raymond Edward Sears. Mr. Sears worked with General Electric for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he served as choir director for the 11 a.m. Mass; a member of the Parrish Council; and chairman of the Catholic Committee on Scouting. He was active in (Boy Scouting) for 30 years, serving as Scout Master of Troop 96 for over 25 years. He received the Silver Beaver Award.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Monday at noon at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. John T. Gavin and the Rev. Joseph E. Tustin officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carole Medlin Sears; two sons, Joseph Sears of Goldsboro, and William Sears of Dallas; a brother, John Sears of Fitchburg, Mass.; five sisters, Helen LaFoss, Jeanette Chambers, Janice Colgate, Dottie Sears, all of Fitchburg, Mass., and Patricia Dirusso of Danbury, Conn.

An evening prayer service for the dead will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church and a visitation will follow from 7 until 9 p.m. at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Zwirblia, 303 Dee St., in Mimosa Park.

Arrangements are being handled by Seymour Funeral Home.
