John L. Nelles, 66, of 1120 Allegheny Ave., Oil City, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, July 23, 2006, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following a two-year battle with cancer. Born Jan. 10, 1940, in Duryea, he was the son of John and Thelma Schropp Matiko. He was a veteran of the Air Force and enjoyed his home.
Mr. Nelles worked as a machinist for Oil Well Supply and as a laborer for Franklin Steel.
He was married Sept. 14, 1962, to Geraldine Hadden, who survives, along with his mother, Thelma Reynolds of Seneca; two daughters, Connie Smith of Franklin and Mrs. Chip (Cindy) Misner of Lake City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Don (Joan) Hull of Franklin and Mrs. Jack (Mary Anne) Reynolds of Bowerston, Ohio.
Mr. Nelles was preceded in death by his father.
No visitation will be observed. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.
