Richard Morgan McCabe, age 77, husband of Kathryn Ann Rains McCabe, died Friday, August 10, 2007, at the home of his son in Florence. Born in Gilberton, Pa., he was a son of the late William Frederick McCabe and the late Kathryn Ferris McCabe. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Major and was a Vietnam War veteran and was also a retired school teacher from Hillcrest High School. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Claremont Masonic Lodge #64.
Survivors include his wife of Sumter; a son Richard Morgan McCabe, II and his wife, Stephanie, of Florence; six grandchildren, Ryan McCabe and his wife, Linda, Gregory McCabe, Patrick McCabe, Tregey McCabe, Matthew McCabe, and Natalie McCabe; two great- grandchildren, Ian McCabe and Lorelai McCabe; and a daughter-in-law, Susie McCabe of Sumter. He was preceded in death by a son, William B. "Bill" McCabe; and two sisters, Norma Bock and Faye McCabe.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Pickens officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Members of the Claremont Masonic Lodge #64 will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and following the service at the home, 606 Baldwin Drive.
