Captain Theodore F. Lemcke, 30, pilot with the 482nd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, died yesterday morning as he was preparing to take off on a flight in an F-102 from the U.S. Naval Air Station at Oceana, VA.
According to Air Force officials, the Air Defense Command ordered a scramble of two F-102 aircraft at 9:30 a.m. They said Captain Lemcke and another pilot ran from the hangar to the aircraft, a distance of about 130 yeards, got into their planes and proceeded from the parking area toward the runway.
Officials said Captain Lemcke made a quarter turn and slumped forward in the cockpit. His F-102 rolled about 40 feet and collided with a T-33 jet trainer doing minor damage to both aircraft.
Ground crew personnel removed the canopy from the aircraft and took Captain Lemcke from the seat. He was rushed to (the) base dispensary at Oceana where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:45 a.m. A heart attack was susupected but a definite ruling on the death had not been received here at noon today.
Captain Lemcke was on temporary duty at Oceana with other pilots from the 482nd while runway work is being completed at Seymour Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen M. Lemcke of 901 S. MadisonAve.; one daughter, Sandra Lee, 2, and one son, Erie M., 1, both of the home, and his mother, Mrs. Ruth Foster, Lemcke of Summitt, N. J.

Memorial services for Captain Theodore F. Lemcke, 30, were to be held at the Base Chapel at Seymour Johnson today at 2 p.m.
