Funeral Services for Retired Chief Master Sergeant James Brandt Henderson, 69, of Columbia, SC, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2004, in the Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home, with Rev. Roger Snipes and Rev. Ron Avant officiating. Entombment, with full military honors, will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Active Pallbearers will be the U.S. Air Force. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 400 Percival Road, Columbia, SC, 29206, or to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC, 29210. CMSgt Henderson died October 24, 2004. Born on January 24, 1935, in Brevard, NC, he was the son of the late James Burton Henderson and Alta Clark Henderson. He had been a resident of Columbia since 1978. He retired after 26 years from the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He also served in the missile squadron during the Cuban Crisis. CMSgt Henderson again retired in 1995 as Program Supervisor with the State of South Carolina Employment Security Commission, after 22 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for Shakespeare Fishing Tackle in Columbia. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6, D.A.V., West Columbia, the Air Force Sgts. Association, and Bayview Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Henderson of Columbia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Erich Gallardo of Brandon, Florida, and Anita and David Wofford of Elgin, SC; a half-sister, Anita Schroder of Wenatchee, WA; three grandchildren, Brandon Gallardo, Shelby Gallardo, and Marlayna Gallardo.
