William H. Harris,
WWII medal winner


William H. Harris, 72, of 1401 Eagle Trace, a retired postman at the Chicopee, Mass., Postal Service Office, died on Tuesday in Westhoff Hospital. Born in Wales, he moved to Florida in 1986.

He was an Army Air Forces veteran of 24 years, and served in World War II. He retired as a chief master sergeant. He served in the European theater, and was a two-time recipient of the Purple Heart. He also received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Medal of Valor.

He was a member of the Moose Club in Chicopee, and a former worshipper at the city's First Federated Church.

He leaves his wife, the former Vivian Veronisi; three sons, Keith of Chicopee, Mass., Hayden of Boston, Mass., and Jack Veronisi of West Springfield, Mass; five daughters, Susan Gawron and Joanne Asselin of Chicopee, Claire Carle of Springfield, Judy Veronesi of Boston, and Gina Stromanberger of Colorado; a brother, James of Tecumseh, Mich.; and 13 grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday morning at Grise Funeral Home in Chicopee, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon and evening, and memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 383 Dwight St., Holyoke, 01040.
