Mr. Clyde D. Harmon, 72, of Callaway, Fla., passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Greeneville, Tenn., on Nov. 22, 1930, to the late Dale and Juanita Harmon. He played football at Greeneville High School and Tusculum College in Greeneville on a scholarship.
Mr. Harmon joined the Air Force and served his country during the Korean conflict and Vietnam era. Having earned many medals and commendations, he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1979 after 28 years of service. He later retired from Auto Zone after 10 years of service.
Clyde loved sports and hunting with his boys. He was a fastpitch pitcher for many squadron and base leagues, pitching his last game at the age of 48. He was also an avid bowler, only having to give that up a few years ago. He also coached many youth football and baseball teams his boys were on. He was also a member of the United Brethren Church in Greeneville, Tenn.
Mr. Harmon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary E. Harmon of Callaway, Fla.; daughter, Vickie Peavy and her husband, Don; sons, Skip Harmon and his wife, Sherry, Randy Harmon, and Kelly Harmon and his wife, Debra; grandchildren, Troy, Chris and Leann Kasper, and Lindsay, Jessica, Jason, Melanie, Tracie, Tiffany and Brittney Harmon; four greatgrandchildren; a sister, Jo Stroud and her husband, Davis; a brother, Ralph Harmon of Greeneville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his buddies Ruffy and Chipper.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Robbins and the Rev. Buddy Caswell officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery will full military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 until 8 p.m. The family will be staying at the home of Mr. Harmon's daughter at 145 Hill Drive, Callaway, FL 32404.
