Robert J. Hain of Auburn, WA, died Oct. 26, 2001, north of Wentworth, S.D., when the pickup he was driving collided with a semitrailer. He was 80.
Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Artesian, S.D., Mr. Hain served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and joined the Air Force, retiring in 1964. Mr. Hain married Mary McCallum in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Oct. 12, 1982. He worked as a police officer at the Veterans Hospital in Washington.
Mr. Hain was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, Resurgan Masonic Lodge, No. 31 in Mitchell, S.D., Disabled American Veterans, and Order of Eagles Lodge, No. 2298 in Auburn.
Mr. Hain was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Carol McOnie-Dunbar in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hain of Auburn; son Stanley Hain of West Seattle; daughter Linda Borum of Tennessee; step-daughters Mary McOnie of Seattle and Elizabeth McOnie-Dempsey of Federal Way; sisters Iva Claire Shoemaker of Des Moines and Phyllis Kunist of Pico Revera, Calif.; and three grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian, S.D. Arrangements are by Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison, S.D.
