482nd F.I.S.:

T-33 --- Taxi of the Air Force

What a plane this was. During the week, the majority of these in the Air Force were sitting on the ramps at Andrews AFB. On the weekends, they were all gone. I don't think the 482nd ever lost one, but we swapped them about from time to time. I think this one was around for a while because I remember the numbers. It was a parts chasers, a quick ride for emergency leave personnel, and a weekend cruiser...aside from training duty and flight-time scoremaking. We had two or three assigned on a regular basis.

I don't recognize the pilot but recognize his habit of putting his helmet on the windshield and donning a 482nd cap right after landing...four or five pilots did that. Some took their helmets off right away, and almost all were hand carrying it when they hit the ground. This helmet is white. As I recall, that makes it newly issued and about to be uniquely painted, each pilot being allowed his own distinct coloring theme. GCW
