Even before the advent of "Jaws," the men of the 482nd were reluctant to give sharks much of a chance. You'll note all of the dry bathing suits in this and the previous photos. Skin cancer didn't bother us. But the Gulf sure had sharks.
The hammerheads bothered me. A local boy lost a leg to one while we were there. He had been wading when struck...his father beating off the shark with a piece of wood managed to pull the boy away.
