482nd F.I.S.:

October 2, 1958; Oceana. Lt. Fred Conable watches a tape of his practice runs (the image obscurred by the camera flash). NADAR (or North American Data Air Reproducer) was a tape device to record up to a half hour of data from the F-102's radar screen. Both the tape cartridge (left) and aircraft recorder are visible on top of the reproducer. While dated today, the images were multiple and complex, revealing a great deal of information...including pilot errors and was used as a training tool. More than once, at the urging of young lieutenants embarrassed over a flight error, I was obliged to report a tape "failure."
